Problem running CGI script

Help! I have a very basic question regarding running a CGI srcipt on Best.

I have uploaded my .cgi file as ASCII, changed the permissions to 750, and
set the Perl path to #!/usr/local/perl/ (have also tried
#!/usr/local/bin/perl), but when I try to execute the script I get a
"Document Contains No Data" error message. When I telnet in and try to run
the script from the command line, I get an error saying "Command Not Found",
but if I type "perl " before the file name, then the .cgi script runs fine.
This tells me nothing is wrong with the script, but some kind of
configuration error.

I've run CGIs successfully on other ISPs and can't figure out what's wrong
here. Any help is appreciated.

TIA.

Vidya

You may need to set your permissions differently. HTTPD usually runs as
"nobody" - and the 750 permissions lock out "nobody".

also, the path to perl is:

shell17.ba.best.com% which perl
/usr/bin/perl
shell17.ba.best.com% which perl5
/usr/bin/perl5

and NOT #!/usr/local/perl/

that's why it will work from command line with "perl ------.cgi". there,
you've specified to use perl, which the system knows where to find. You'll
get the "command not found" because your script isn't looking for perl in the
right places.
