Netscape 3.x bug??

I despise "bloatware" (did Schaft coin that word?) and therefore I've
been using Netscape 3.1 for a long time now. I refuse to entertain
any notions of Netscape Navigator or MSIE. The only bug I've ever
encountered in Netscape 3.1 has to do with printing ("There are no
pages to print!"), but that's easily gotten around by just marking
some text within the page and trying again.

But today I ran across a page that had a major problem with Netscape
3.x, and I even went so far as to email the webmaster about it. The
reply I received said that they knew about the Netscape 3.x "bug."
I have now viewed the page in Netscape Navigator, and I don't see
anything about it that warrants whatever it is that they're trying
to do, although a friend of mine in Britain, who uses MSIE, says
that there is some sort of color change going on as one scrolls down.

The main page doesn't have a problem, but the subpages definitely do.

I'm just curious. Is there anything about this page that is so
confounded special that it couldn't be rewritten in a way that would
work with Netscape 3.x??

I really hate browser wars, not to mention monitor resolution wars.
I prefer simplicity when it comes to HTML, so as not to alienate large
portions of the market.

Content should count for more than glitz, shouldn't it?

For most of these bozos, the purpose *is* to make it not work with
Netscape 3.x.

I remember when a certain very popular website went to a new template
which made Netscape 1 crash. I looked over the situation, and
found that adding a in one spot would leave the page the
same in all other browsers, but not crash Netscape 1. Being pleased
with myself, I emailed the webmaster, and was told in no uncertain
terms that Netscape 1 was not welcome anyway and they would not be
making the change. That was a long time ago, but the attitude is
the same.

I'm seeing more sites which automatically turn me away, going to
a separate screen saying they only "support" the latest Netscape
or MSIE. I just go along my way. Here is a guy dumber than toast
(i.e. a "webmaster") who thinks I care what he "supports" ... it
boggles the mind.

Sorry. Content is obsolete. Please upgrade.
