DNA-damage-response by UV irradiation

Dear cell-biology-specialists,

I am looking for a protocol to induce DNA-damage-response in cell lines
(f.e. HEK293).

We would like to use the equivalent of 35 J/m², but we don`t have a
Stratalinker and wonder whether we can use a simple UV-lamp/table usually
used for Ethidiumbromide-geles in our lab.

We already know, that the media should be removed for the time of the
irradiation. But we didn`t find any information about how long the cells
should be treated with UV.

Many thanks for your help J

Best Regards!
