Little help needed from a Bioinformatician

Dear readers,
If there are any current bioinformaticians or any grad students pursuing
such a career out there, could you please give me some direction as to how
to gain exposure to the field? I currently possess a B.S. in Biology with
computer skills, however no programming abilities. I have an interest in
molecular genetics and the neurosciences and would like to combine them with
the knowledge of how to manage the vast amount of data being discovered in
these areas. I intend to further my education in grad school, potentially
in a bioinformatics program. Would you recommend first pursuing more of a
scientific-research-oriented course of study, especially considering my lack
of programming abilities? Or is that not completely necessary given the
ever-increasing demand for this type of work?

Thanks in advance for your reply.
