The Center for Biodiversity and Conservation at the American Museum
of Natural History is organizing a two-day symposium on microbes and
conservation. We are actively seeking posters...the submission
deadline is February 1. Details and the agenda are available on our
website at http://cbc.amnh.org/symposia/microbes/. We hope to welcome
you to the American Museum in April!

SMALL MATTERS: MICROBES AND THEIR ROLE IN CONSERVATION
The Center for Biodiversity and Conservation's Twelfth Annual Symposium
American Museum of Natural History
April 26 and 27, 2007
http://cbc.amnh.org/symposia/microbes/

Symposium Theme: The Museum's Center for Biodiversity and
Conservation will convene a diverse group of scientists to examine
the intersection of microbes and conservation biology. This symposium
represents one of the first opportunities for disease ecologists,
microbial genomicists, marine virologists, biogeochemists, and
conservation geneticists to discuss how microbial diversity is
assessed, how it is threatened, and how the "unseen majority"
profoundly affects the fate of all other life on Earth.

Session Topics:
I: Standing on the Shoulders of the Tiny: Detecting and Describing
Microbial Diversity
II: Can't Live With 'Em? Diseases and Other Harmful Microbes - But
Are They a Necessary Evil?
III: Can't Live Without 'Em? The Role of Microbes in the
Sustainability of Life On Earth
IV: The Intersection of Microbiology and Conservation: Case Studies

Audience: Scientists from the traditionally disparate fields of
microbiology and conservation, including biogeochemists, marine
microbiologists, disease ecologists, and microbial systematists, as
well as conservation practitioners, wildlife managers, policy makers,
educators, students, and interested members of the general public.

CALL FOR POSTERS: Poster abstracts that address some aspect of the
symposium's main theme will be considered, as well as related topics
within education, policy, management, and economics. Details re.
content and abstract-submission guidelines are available at
http://cbc.amnh.org/symposia/microbes/. Deadline: February 1.

SPECIAL STUDENT PRICING and EARLY-REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS through March 30!
