At the University of Manchester, UK, we have over 10 years experience in running a range of online courses in computational biology. These courses are designed to enable biologists and computer scientists to update their skills, while remaining in the workplace. They are also very suitable for home study, helping you to keep in touch with a research environment while taking a career break. The courses may be taken as individual modules, or you could work towards a qualification in : Computational Bioinformatics or Computational Systems Biology The courses beginning on 1 March 2010 include: Introduction to software development in Java (http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinformatics/modules/bs6250.html) Introduction to microarray data analysis (http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinformatics/modules/BIOL61010.html) Databases and data modelling (http://intranet.cs.man.ac.uk/peve/msc/distance/moduleunits/databases.html) Biocomputing (http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinformatics/modules/BIOL61092.html) Object-oriented analysis and design with UML (http://intranet.cs.man.ac.uk/peve/msc/distance/moduleunits/oo.html) Introduction to Ontologies for the Biosciences (http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinformatics/modules/cs847.html) You will find further information, including the current fees and a link to the online application form, here : http://octette.cs.man.ac.uk/bioinformatics/index.html If you have any questions, or need advice on the module options, please contact Heather.Vincent@manchester.ac.uk
