May 7-11, 1990
Gatlinburg, Tennessee
U. S. A.
ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS
Advances in biotechnology continue to
provide alternatives that will have an
impact on the future economic production of
fuels and chemicals. This Symposium, twelfth
in a series, again provides a forum for
presentation of new research results and
exchange of ideas in this area. The topics
include supporting biological research as
well as new bioconversion processing con-
cepts and thermal/chemical processing of
biomass. Formal technical sessions, a poster
session, informal discussion groups, and
time for private discussions will be
arranged to encourage productive interac-
tions among attendees from the academic,
private, and governmental sectors.
The Chairman of this symposium is Elias
Greenbaum, Oak Ridge National Laboratory,
Oak Ridge, Tennessee; the Cochairman is
Charles E. Wyman, Solar Energy Research
Institute, Golden, Colorado. Members of this
year's Organizing Committee are Helena L.
Chum, Solar Energy Research Institute, Gol-
den, Colorado; Arthur E. Humphrey, Lehigh
University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Donald
L. Johnson, Grain Processing Corporation,

CALL FOR PAPERS
We invite you to submit papers for any
of the five formal sessions described in the
technical program and for the poster ses-
sion. The formal sessions will be held
during half-day periods throughout the
meeting, and the poster session will be held
Thursday evening, May 10, 1990. Our schedule
calls for the submission of a 150- to 200-
word abstract, using the enclosed form, by
December 15, 1989. Papers will be selected
prior to January 15, 1990, and authors will
be notified of acceptance by February 1,
1990. Because of publication requirements,
it is absolutely necessary that manuscripts
be available in a form suitable for submis-
sion for publication no later than the time
of presentation. The papers will require
normal peer review before being accepted for
publication in the journal
