Adding a gateway to a newsgroup seems to always increase the
volume of traffic.  Unfortunately, Usenet is not very well
distributed outside the United States and a few of the more
wealthy "developed" countries.  E-mail (and thus mailing 
lists) is far more universal.  Have you polled the readers
of TES-L who are outside the US about the availability of 
Usenet at their sites?  Or about how they feel about even
more e-mail, in the absence of Usenet access?

Do your readers use the INDEX or DIGEST feature much?  That
is a popular strategy on the ROOTS-L list (lately gated to 
the soc.roots newsgroup);  readers get either a single large
file per day (DIGEST) or a list of all article subjects for
the day (INDEX) which they can then retrieve from the server.
Both of these features assume that the TESL-L server does
archive all the traffic on the list.

Lastly, I note that there is misc.education.language.english;
is this where you intend to have the gateway established?
Whether yes or no, I think it would be appropriate to include
that newsgroup in the discussion.
