As Listowner of AUTOCAT I would like to recommend that this UNMODERATED list be gatewayed to Usenet as BIT.LISTSERV.AUTOCAT. AUTOCAT is a list devoted to matters relating to library cataloging, classification, and authority control. It currently has some 2,300 subscribers in 28 countries. Subscriptions to the list are handled by the ListServ software at UBVM.CC.BUFFALO.EDU Two weeks ago I polled the subscribers of AUTOCAT to get their reaction to this proposal. The reaction was overwhelmingly in favor. There were only two negative responses, one from someone who thought that this meant that the Listserv version of Autocat would disappear, and one from someone fearing the impact of this additional access mechanism on the present list. I am therefore posting this message to BIT.ADMIN in the hope that the response from this end will be equally as favorable.
