So if you gateway it, it will still be half-moderated: the mailing
list half will be moderated and look just like it does now -- no
change for the mailing list users.  The newsgroup half will be
unmoderated, so it will probably wind up looking just like
sci.skeptic, with the mailing list traffic drowned in the noise.
(Plus, there will be additional noise, of the form "How come you
never reply to any of my postings, what are ya, afraid to answer
because you know I'm right?" caused by people who don't understand
about the gateway, followed by even more flames about how one-way
gatewaying violates the Holy Sacred Spirit of Usenet and the
instigator should be mailbombed out of existence.)  News users
will now have two flaming swamps to choose from instead of only
a single one.  This is hardly an improvement since any useful
discussion that may exist in sci.skeptic will now be fragmented
between two noisy groups.

In summary:
Mailing list: no change
Newsgroups:   two flame-filled discussion areas instead of one

Maybe I'm a bit pessimistic, but I don't really see the point
in doing it if this will be the result.
