Before I started the INSOFT-L Internationalization mailing list, I read
comp.std.internat to make sure that INSOFT-L would not be redundant.  I
think the focus of the two groups, though related, differs significantly.

Although you have a good suggestion about consulting the readers of
comp.std.internat, I'm hesitant about opening a can of worms.  INSOFT-L
is thriving, with over 360 subscribers, representing internationalization
at the most significant commercial firms, including Microsoft (15
subscribers), DEC, Apple, Honeywell, Borland, and many more.
comp.std.internat, by contrast, is very underutilized.

Finally, INSOFT-L is moderated, and I want it to stay that way.  I want
to maintain some semblance of control over the list, which I can't do
with comp.std.internat . . . it belongs to someone else.  The main reason
I want to gateway INSOFT-L to network news is to appease the subscribers
who complain about cluttered mail boxes.

Please set me straight if I'm wrong.
