Junk mail to the mailing list can be avoided if the mailing list is
changed to a closed list - mailing lists accepts postings by
subscribers only. I believe there is also a way to link the newsgroup
and mailing list in such a way that only subscribers of the mailing
list can posts to the newsgroup.
