I decided not to call him for a number of reasons: (1) money, (2) I'm
not the owner of bit.listserv.lawsch-l, and (3) e-mail should be
perfectly appropriate. If he's not going to respond to e-mail, why
should I phone him? To be in his face? He owes me nothing.

I've already taken a greater interest in this matter than I have the
time for. To be honest, I don't understand how an entire newsgroup
hierarchy can rely on the good will of one person, but the newsgroup
world is a weird place, and every time I interpose myself into its
midst, I am mystified by its inner workings, its big shots, and its
strange rules.

My recommendation, based on all this, would be to kill
bit.listserv.lawsch-l and create a simple mailing list hosted by a
reputable and reliable server. But I was trying to find a solution
that would keep the gate alive and working in a reliable manner.
