I recently created two new discussion groups, WX-CHASE and SKYWARN, on the VMD.CSO.UIUC.EDU LISTSERV machine. These groups are spin-offs of the popular WX-TALK weather discussion group. WX-CHASE was designed as a place for tornado chasers to post their reports and summaries. These posts are often quite long 200+ lines and are not of interest to everyone on WX-TALK. After receiving numerous requests to separate the chase summaries from WX-TALK I created WX-CHASE. Almost immediately, however, I started getting requests to gateway the group to NetNews. SKYWARN is a brand new group designed to facillitate discussion and exchange of ideas pertaining to the community warning side of severe weather. The SKYWARN program itself is overseen by the National Weather Service. The SKYWARN list should help people who manage SKYWARN groups, act as local community storm spotters, and people who develop SKYWARN training programs. I would like to gateway both these groups under .bit.listserv. I have received no objections from the WX-TALK group and the LISTSERV manager said she has no problems with this. Per the bit/policy file, I am formally asking if there are any objections to creating these two new NetNews groups. ..Chris.. Chris@SIU.Edu
