Hello. I hope this is the right place to post this question.

I am subscribed to a listserv (clayart) that appears to have a
bit.listserv gateway (bit.listserv.clayart), but it is inactive.
The listserv moderator knows nothing about this gateway, and says
it apparently dates to some prior owner of the listserv.

I'd like to see the gateway become operational, since the
list gets around 80 messages a day and it would be much
easier to deal with as a newsgroup.

Can someone explain what's involved in this? I've seen
the FAQ that explains how to start a gateway from scratch, but
that doesn't seem to apply here.

Once I know what's involved, I expect I'll have to sell the
moderator (and the rest of the listserv users) on the idea.
What would the moderator need to initially, and (especially) what
would he need to do daily beyond his present listserv duties?

Thank you very much for any help or direction you can supply!
