A bidirectional mail<->news gateway is now under discussion for the listserv
mailing list sorehand@ucsfvm.ucsf.edu. Sorehand is a forum for discussion
about Repetitive Strain Injuries, Cumulative Trauma Disorders, alternative
keyboards, ergonomics, and workman's compensation / insurance / disability
legal issues.

If no significant objections are raised within 7 days, the newsgroup
bit.listserv.sorehand will be established and gatewayed to/from the mailing
list.

This announcement is being posted to those newsgroups that might be candidates
for cross-posting with bit.listserv.sorehand. Followups for this announcement
are directed to bit.admin.

I think it's a great idea. I subscribe to sorehand but would prefer to
use a newgroup instead of e-mail.

There is already a newsgroup for discussion of this and related
issues: sci.med.occupational.

Does SOREHAND merit the addition of a gateway and distribution
to tens of thousands of Usenet sites? How many subscribers does
SOREHAND have now? How much traffic?

I subscribe to both sorehand and s.m.o, and s.m.o seems to be overly broad in
scope, with much lower traffic. S.m.o might feel overwhelmed if sorehand were
to gate there.

Sorehand merits distribution to thousands of sites where millions of daily
keyboard users are at risk for seriously injuring themselves. I used to think
it could never happen to me until it eventually did.

>How many subscribers does SOREHAND have now?

500+

>How much traffic?

Seems to average about 20+ per day.

Why not post there and ask them before going through the bother and
the expense of setting up a new newsgroup. A gateway can very
simply be added to an existing newsgroup.
