proposed an 'encryption' technology called CLIPPER; You run the risk of over-
loading the name.

I know the DBASE Clipper product was first but that is not really relevant
since the purpose of a newsgroup name is to focus discussion; Unless you can
somehow focus the name so it is obvious you are refering to the database 
product rather than the chip, you will have provided an 'obvious' home for
discussion on the CLIPPER chip technology (along with the privacy/security/
political threads.)

You'd better check.  It's a pain to go through the process of setting up
the gateway only to have to shut it down two days latter with someone
screaming at you because they didn't give permission.  (Not that this
has ever happened, but I can imagine it would be a pain.)  :-)

With the new naming scheme proposed recently, how about

     bit.database.clipper

as the newsgroup name?

I think we need to give more thought to the "middle names" we use.  Otherwise
a year from now we'll be bemoaning the fact that the names aren't consistent.
I suggest that each second part correspond to one of the main hierarchies.
So this would become bit.comp.clipper.  Or perhaps better yet
bit.comp.database.clipper.
