Hi, I was proposing to start a gateway between t-assist and soc.college.teaching-asst. There has been no concerns from bit.admin, and soc.college.teaching-asst. However in t-assist the opinion seems to be divided with 3 people suggesting they want a gateway and 7 suggesting they would abstain from this move. The guidelines state that I should now conduct a vote similar to the creation of a new newsgroup. Does that mean I have to go through a month of CFV's and all that? Would I need 2/3 and 100 vote difference? Who can take part in this vote? Only members of t-assist? Do I have to verify if the voters are t-assist'ers? When I last checked, t-assist had only 250 members and so I do not think that I can get a YES vote in the traditional USENET sense. Is the normal recourse in such a situation to drop this idea?? How would I go about doing that?? Thanks for your help, surendar

Which guildelines are these? You are simply proposing to add a gateway to
an existing news group on the USENET side. As far as USENET is concerned,
since you did ask and got no objection from the USENET side, it has the
same effect as adding another site which participates in USENET. The USENET
vote is only to add a news group to USENET, adding gateways to existing
groups is outside of our guidelines.

From the USENET guidelines, no. The group already exists

You only got three objections from the mailing list side?; I don't see
the need for a vote (but I don't know the protocol from your side; someone
else needs to advise you) In any case, you should not have to use the USENET
model for group creation to establish the gateway.

I think I will have to let the idea of a gateway fall through as too many people who participate in the mailing list seem to think of it as a bad idea. Anyway, Thanks a lot surendar

I wouldn't give up yet. The idea is that you ask to think what people think and if, as in this case, a number of people object you ask for a vote. Any subscriber can send you his or her vote. Wait for some time (a week or two is probably sufficient on a mailing list) and see if these seven people speak for the majority of the subscribers. If you give up now you are letting these seven people decide for all 250 subscribers. Most may not care or actually be in favor of the idea.
