Dear Friends:

I find the attempt for a bit.thrace.listserv based in Turkey,
to be gated at least perplexing if not suspicious as of the cause
that it serves.

There already IS a list about the region Thrace, in
Xanthi-Thrace, Greece. It is by far the oldest and is far more
inclusive in the issues that it addresses. I have been in the
Thrace list from its inception, and have been since an active
participant.

As you knowe there is an ongoing tension between Greece and
Turkey, with the later trying to cause instability in the region
by raising territorial claims.

A list about Thrace hosted in Turkey, where freedom of speech
does NOT exist, most definetly will be used for the benefit of
the Turkish government propaganda, and it will further aggravate
the already mounting problems in the region.

As a participant of the Thrace List, and someone that has lived
in Thrace for 6 six years, with good knowledge of the issues in
the region, I STRONGLY OBJECT to the creation of a Turkish based
Thrace List to discuss issues of minorities in Greece. I find
it at least pretentious that there is NO list dealing with the
profound disregard of human rights in Turkey, as this is well
documented by numerous organizations which very naturally makes
me wonder what are the motives behind the gating of a Turkish
based Thrace list. I protest the dark agenda that will most
definetly emerge behind this attempt, even if this may not exist
in the mind of the person that uwisely made the proposal.

Despite that I've changed my mind about forwarding 'thrace' list to the
usenet, I wish to reply to these recent posting in some misconceptions and
misunderstandings as far as my mailing list concerned.

The subscription to 'thrace' is through the Listserver, meaning that they
are not controlled by myself or anyone else. This isn't the case with most
of the Greek mailing lists. I think the 'thrace' list in Demokritos
university is maybe too inclusive where the voice of a tiny minority will
certainly be lost.

This claim as far as my mailing list concerned is gross and totally
unjustified,
'thrace' list will be used by whom, by myself? Since the subscriptions and
postings are not controlled in any way, by myself or anyone else, how this
could be possible?

As someone who was born in Thrace and lived there for 22 years I think I am
very well aware of the problems as far as the minority concerned. My
mailing list is not only on the problems of minority but more for the
people from the minority who can talk amongst themselves for themselves.
What is objectionable in that?

I find these speculative and unjustifiable accusations as far as my mailing
list concerned as a conspicuous attempt for censorship.
