Jim,

What is the protocol for setting up a listserv as a read-only newsgroup?
I have a listserv for bluegrass musicians called acutab-list. It differs
from the existing bgrass-l in that ours is more geared toward the players
as opposed to general bluegrass interest.

Thanks, John

I know no procedure. Newsgroups are, by their nature, discussion groups.
I don't know any that don't let anyone post to them.

What you CAN do is to have the newsgroup set up as moderated and have
the address for posts be the mailing list. Then you can use the normal
Listserv controls (eg, Send=Private) to control who can post.

The one I run, BERITA-L is basically a "read-only" group -- only 6 people are
allowed to post to it, because we send real news articles, and very few people
actually have news, most just want to read the news.

I did this and then set everyone to NOPOST except for the few who post news.
I also told people that if they have news and want to become a poster to email
me personally and I'll change them to POSTers.
