The prostatitis mailing list is a new list joining the family of
medical lists at St. John's University. Prostatitis is a clinical
disease that is estimated to affect up to 50% of all men. Men with 
prostatitis my have symptoms of urinary trouble, pain, or sexual 
dysfunction. Prostatitis is a terribly overlooked disease. The number
of people who either have the disease or its evidence at biopsy are
staggering.

Four months ago some of the creators of this mailing list managed the
creation of the USENet newsgroup sci.med.prostate.prostatitis by
following the proscribed procedures and obtaining the necessary votes.
It is the intention of the creators to gateway the newsgroup and the
mailing list together to appear as a seamless whole to subscribers in
both camps.

The prostatitis mailing list and the sci.med.prostate.prostatitis
newsgroup are non-moderated.

The gateway should be between 
 prostatitis@sjuvm.stjohns.edu
and
 sci.med.prostate.prostatitis

The formal request follows.

Request to establish a Mailing List/Netnews gateway.

1.  Approval of the mailing list owner and MLM administrator

    I am the mailing list owner. St. John's University established
    the listserv at the request prostatitis patients, the originators
    of the USENet newsgroup sci.med.prostate.prostatitis and
    representatives of the non-profit Prostatitis Foundation located
    in Chicago. The newsgroup has been operating for four months, and
    has just been queried for any objections to the gateway. (None are
    anticipated.)  

2.  Approval of the mailing list readers. 

    Currently, there are no mailing list readers. The mailing list 
    has been created for the purpose of providing a subscription
    alternative to those without Netnews access (especially medical
    personnel in various countries around the world) and for those
    favoring postings delivery via e-mail. The mailing list has not
    yet been made available for public subscription, pending further
    documentation setup and testing of the proposed gateway.

3.  Crossposting

    There will be no crossposting.

4.  Post to bit.admin

    This message is being posted to bit.admin on 12-28-95.

5.  Write to news-admin@american.edu

    If there are no objections voiced by January 5, 1995, and no
    objections offered by subscribers to the USENet newsgroup
    sci.med.prostate.prostatitis this message will be forwarded
    to news-admin@american.edu.
