This is a request for discussion regarding the establishment of a Usenet
gateway to an existing mailing list, BIOMCH-L. The list carries nearly
2500 subscribers, and serves as a forum for researchers in biomechanics
and movement science. It operates under the patronage of the
International
Society of Biomechanics. A gateway is requested to enable simpler access
for some users, with features such as threading and shared disk storage.
The proposed newsgroup will be bit.listserv.biomch-l, and will be
moderated
so that the regular filtering of BIOMCH-L applies to postings from Usenet
as well.
If there are no objections within seven days of this posting, the formal
request below will be sent to news-admin@american.edu.
1. The mailing list owners have approved the establishment of a gateway.
2. The readers of BIOMCH-L have approved this change informally.
3. The gatewayed Usenet group will be bit.listserv.biomch-l.
4. If there is no dissenting vote in bit.admin within seven days, the
following information will be sent to news-admin@american.edu.
5. This is a formal request to establish a gateway between the mailing
list BIOMCH-L and a new Usenet group, bit.listserv.biomch-l. The
necessary information is summarized below. All criteria for
establishing a gateway have been met.
Mailing list: BIOMCH-L
Host node: NIC.SURFNET.NL
List owners: bogert@acs.ucalgary.ca, pierre.baudin@acadiau.ca,
reinschm@acs.ucalgary.ca, kgp@infopol.uucp,
mfyoung@mtu.edu
Description: Mailing list for biomechanics and movement science
Newsgroup name: bit.listserv.biomch-l (moderated)

With this many subscribers I suggest you considering creating a sci.*
newsgroup, and gate the mailing list to that newsgroup.
To create a comp, humanities, misc, news, rec, sci, soc, or talk newsgroup:
A RFD (Request for Discussion) is presented to news.announce.newgroups
and discussion is held in news.groups. After a month of discussion a
CFV (Call for Votes) is issued. To win the proposal must have 100 more
YES votes than NO votes and two/thirds of the votes must be YES.
[To get help going through this newsgroup creation process, send email to
group-mentors@acpub.duke.edu explaining exactly what the scope of your
proposed group would be. A member of group-mentors will send you the
documents you need to read, and will help you select a name and write an RFD.]
See the articles "How to Create a New Usenet Newsgroup" and "Usenet
Newsgroup Creation Companion", in news.announce.newusers, news.answers,
news.groups
If they're not there, they've probably expired at your site, and will
be reposted later. They can be gotten by sending mail to
mail-server@rtfm.mit.edu, with a blank subject line, and with one or more
of the following commands in the message body:
send usenet/news.groups/How_to_Create_a_New_Usenet_Newsgroup
send usenet/news.groups/Usenet_Newsgroup_Creation_Companion
You get them via anonymous ftp from rtfm.mit.edu. The path names are as
given above, but with "pub/" before "usenet". Frequently this site is
difficult to connect to because it's too busy.
