Three positions working on a South Florida fire ecology project
are being announced by the Biological Resources Division of the
U.S. Geological Survey. Two positions are Biological Science
Technicians (Botany) at the GS-5 level (salary $21K/yr) and one
is a Botanist at the GS-7 ($26K/yr) or GS-9 ($31.9K/yr) level.
The project is a long-term study of experimental fire regimes in
pine forests and associated cypress wetlands in Big Cypress
National Preserve. The technicians are largely responsible for
conducting fieldwork and the botanist is expected to assist in
fieldwork and handle database management and analysis.
The positions are not permanent and do not confer competitive
status for federal employment. However, they do provide
entitlement to health, life, retirement, and within-grade
increase benefits for the period of employment.
