Hello, I am a Master's student working in the Landscape Ecology lab at Carleton University, Ottawa Ontario. This summer I need a team of keen and committed volunteers to assist me in my field work. Upper year or recent graduates of undergrad biology/ecology are preferred but consideration will be given to those with relavent experience. The field research will entail nest monitoring of three Neotropical migrant bird species in habitat fragments 1 hour outside of Ottawa. The purpose of the study is to relate the reproductive success of the study species to habitat patch size, and percent forest cover in the surrounding landscape to determine threshold amounts of habitat cover required to support viable populations. Volunteers will undergo a training period, and then will collect data in pairs (often without supervision) in the selected forest fragments. The catch is that I can not offer financial assistance to support volunteer field work. The positive side is that research assistants will gain valuable field experience and learn a great deal about bird identification. I am more than willing to assist in finding cheap accomodation in the Ottawa area for those who are interested. If interested, please contact me at one of the following addresses: Michelle Lee mlee@ccs.carleton.ca Biology Dept.
