(2) Participating in data collection (includes coring trees, collecting soil samples, planting spruce seeds and seedlings). (3) Assist with the supervision of undergraduate research assistants. Qualifications: Must be available from approximately June 20 through August 14. As the research will involve camping for 6 weeks in extremely remote areas, the successful candidate must have experience living in remote wilderness areas. Compensation: Salary is $380/week. Travel expenses to and within Alaska will be paid, and per diem ($15/day) will be provided. UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTS. Responsibilities: Assist with data collection, including: tree coring, collection of soil samples, and planting of spruce seeds & seedlings. Qualifications: Applicants must be available for the entire field season, which will begin at the end of June and end on approximately August 14. The research will involve camping for 6 weeks in extremely remote areas, so the successful applicants must have experience living in remote wilderness areas for extended periods. Because of the difficulties and risks associated with travel in such remote areas, applicants without wilderness experience will not be considered. Other recommended qualifications include: coursework in ecology or related discipline, experience conducting ecological field research, first-aid training, and a willingness to tolerate bad weather, long hours, and mosquitoes. Research assistants must also own (or have access to) personal camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, packs, etc.). Compensation: Salary is $230/week. Travel expenses to and within Alaska will be paid, and per diem ($15/day) will be provided.
