I'm working on an article for Animals magazine on wildlife conservation &
the internet. I'm looking for the public's, educators, and scientists input
into the following ideas:
(1) How has the internet, particularly the web, affected wildlife
conservation - for better or for worse?
(2) Have projects such as Cornell's Great 98 Backyard Bird Count (with data
and maps available instantaneously online) and online satellite tracks of
wood storks, whales, sea turtles, etc increased public awareness of
wildlife needs? Have they increased public interest?
(3) If so, has this increased public awareness/interest generated more
conservation organization membership? More funds raised? More "letters" or
email to organizations expressing their thankfulness for the info, etc? If
not, can it be expected to in the future?
(4) Any one who has personally enjoyed following the satellite track of an
animal online, or checking out online data or maps, such as Cornell's Lab
of Ornithology has online, etc, please let me know! I'd love to hear and
include your story.
I'm working on a tight deadline (as usual!) - its Apr 15, so I need
feedback ASAP.
Thanks in advance!!
