Centre for Research on Ecological Impacts of Coastal Cities,
University of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Post-doctoral Fellowship 1 - Restoration of degraded mangrove forests
and saltmarshes
The Centre is looking for a Post-doctoral Fellow with experience in the
ecology of temperate mangrove forests and saltmarshes to work in a
programme of research on restoration of degraded habitat. The focus of
the research is the experimental evaluation of restoration of habitat
with respect to interactions between the restored plant assemblages, the
benthos and various measures of ecological function. Knowledge of the
plant assemblages (including benthic algae) and their functioning is
essential.
The successful appointee must have a good track-record of publications,
or evidence of continuing productive capacity. He/she will be required
to contribute to other research programmes, supervision of students and
the general work of the Centre. This position will provide
opportunities for training in sampling and experimental design and
analysis. Preference will be given to appointees who are able to take
up the position as soon as possible.
The salary range will be Aus $ 42,869 - Aus $ 46,017, plus contributions
to superannuation. The appointment is initially for 2 years, with
possibility of renewal dependent on continuing need and funding.
Post-doctoral Fellowship 2 - Experimental evaluation of benthic habitat
for rare and endemic invertebrates
The Centre is looking for a Post-doctoral Fellow with experience in the
biology of benthos on intertidal and/or subtidal rocky reefs to work in
a programme of research on habitat requirements of diverse benthic
assemblages. The focus of the research is the experimental evaluation
of requirements for habitat with respect to the creation of new habitat
or restoration of degraded habitat, including subtidal habitats.
Preference will be given to appointees with documented knowledge of and
interest in life-histories and general biology and ecology of molluscs,
including micromolluscs, echinoderms, polychaetes and sessile and
colonial fauna.
