I must admit that the request from the CHANGE division took me off guard as well when first reported. Here's our CHANGE division resisting change! It doesn't seem to fit within the cluster concept promoted in Houston. The clusters seem to center around more specific job responsibilities and activities, so that if your job includes a certain responsibility/activity you would want to be a part of that cluster. More diverse careers would lead to joining more clusters. The clusters seem to define "what we do" as opposed to "who we are". (I'm still not sold on the actual word 'cluster'!) We all experience, manage and create change in our careers. The only reason, though, to maintain a separate CHANGE cluster or division would be for folks whose only job responsibility is to change things. I don't think we have many members who deal with change but not media management, instructional technology, multimedia, distance learning, etc., etc. Form a Special Interest Group across cluster lines for everyone interested in change, and include everyone, regardless of specific career paths. That's my opinion, for what it's worth. GW George Wilson Director, Multimedia Access & Production Tyler Junior College PO Box 9020 Tyler, TX 75711-9020 (903) 510-2303 FAX 510-2339
