Hi Megan--there are many variables involved in effective online learning,
among them:

* prior exposure to learning technology

* relationship to other learners (cohort v. non-cohort)

*  facilitation v. narration v. cases

* emphasis on 'web' for communication v. web for research

* integration of asynchornous and real time activities

* inclusion of outside resources through online participation

My own experience has shown that a high level of interaction, with visual
support, is essential, and that timeframe of response changes from in-class
alternatives. Rapid reply from faculty is critical, as is designing
collaborative activities to encourage teaming and discourage isolation.

If you'd like to talk abotu this, you can reach me weekday morning
8:30-11AM, US east coast time. Regards, Nora Carrol, president, The First
Forward Institute, Inc.
