Research Associate

The National Research Center on English Learning and
Achievement seeks a Research Associate to manage a large-
scale quantitative national study of learning and instruction
in English language arts. Applicants should have a strong
background in issues of literacy with a solid understanding
of American school systems, and strong capabilities and
interest in supervising and coordinating data collection,
managing data sets, and analyzing data. The successful
applicant will be employed by the Center on English Learning
and Achievement at the Research Foundation of the State
University of New York at Albany, but will be based at our
partner site at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. A
Master's Degree is require d; an earned Doctorate preferred
in education related field.

CELA's mission is to identify ways to promote learning and
achievement in English and high literacy for all students.
The Center conducts basic and applied research examining:
language arts in English, science, mathematics, social
studies, and other subject area coursework across the grades;
technology use and issues of high literacy; professional
development in the language arts; and the education of
linguistically and ethnically diverse populations.

The deadline for applications is February 26, 1999; however,
applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
The position is a Research Foundation appointment with
renewal subject to continued funding. Send an application
