Hi,
I'm very new to networking and have many questions that need answering.
Any help that you can give me will be most appreciated.
1. What is the difference between the networks? I am on BITNET, in what way is
it different from the others, ie INTERNET, etc?
2. Will I have problems sending mail to people on other networks and vice
versa?
3. I've noticed that my address gets warped/changed when I receive e-mail from
people on other networks. Usually something is added at the end of my
address. For example from B9310289@TRTETM.BITNET to
B9310289%TRTETM.BITNET@forsythe.stanford.edu when I receive e-mail from
friends at Stanford Uni. in the States. Why is this?
4. As a result, will I be able to give my friends my e-mail address (maybe
through the post, etc) without the necessary additions and still receive
e-mail from them? Will their machines be able to recognize my address
without the additions?
5. So far I have not had any problems sending mail to any of the addresses that
I have. And other than mail what else can I do with my e-mail account?
I'm sorry about the number of questions but I am deeply confused and
there isn't anyone here that seems to be able to help me. Thanking you in
advance for any help rendered. You can mail me directly.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
