A MIDI file cannot be imported into Authorware 4 in a sound icon. Under
Windows, however, Authorware 4 permits MIDI files
as OLE objects in display icons.

To insert a MIDI file as an OLE object in a display icon, first open the
display icon and then follow these steps:

     select "Insert|OLE Object"
     check "Create from File"
     click on "Browse"
     select the MIDI file desired
     click on "Insert"
     click on "OK"

To allow the user to play the piece by clicking on its icon,

     select "Edit|Media Clip OLE Object|Attributes..."
     select "Single-click" under "Activation Trigger:"
     select "Play" under "Trigger Verb:"
     check "Package as OLE Object"
     click on "OK"

To play the piece automatically if it is the first OLE object in a
display icon, include the line

OLEDoVerb(IconId@"iconname", "play")

in a calculation, substituting the display icon name for iconname.

To prevent the Media Player window from appearing when the piece is
played,

     select "MIDI Sequence OLE Object|Edit"
in the Media Player window that appears, select "Edit|Options"
     uncheck "Control Bar on Playback"
     click on "OK"
select "File|Exit & Return to..." from the Media Player menus
     click on "Yes"

To substitute a different graphic for the OLE object icon,

     select "MIDI Sequence OLE Object|Convert..."
     check "Display as Icon"
     click on "Change Icon"
     click on "Browse"
set "Files of Type" to "All Files (*.*)" if necessary
select the icon or other graphic file that you want
     click on "Open"
     click on "OK"
     click on "OK"

This should be the final step, since other operations mess up the
graphic assignment.
