Greetings to all of you in this list!! I am glad to see the availablity of some quality lists. Although from what I've seen in this list so far is responses to subscribe to somthing. Hey! I'm a daring guy so....sign me up too! - even if I don't know what for! Well I should probably introduce myself. My name is David Conner. I was a graduate student in the MBA program here at WMU and now I'm a director/producer of interactive multimedia applications for a firm. I own Authorware for Windows and am currently involved with development of different interactive appliactions. For the record I see some of you are using the term "authorware" in the generic sense. I will probably use it to mean Authorware 2.0.1 from Macromedia. I will probably say "authoring tools" for the generic term. Not that I disagree with any of you--only that this is what I am used to. With all the formalities out of the way lets get into some real discussion! I am curious to know who is currently using Authorware or any other authoring tools and why. Or are all of you just curious about a hot new developing tool? The reason is this is such a new area I'm not sure the direction it is heading. I see from Don's posting that there is some curiosity about it all. To respond to his posting the three points he makes are valid but in all honesty any applications developed with Authorware are just what you want them to be. You do however have a learning curve to go through. Once that is behind you its fairly straight forward. Furthermore I would say Authorware is not limited to just "educational" interactive applications. Marketing/promotion applications are clearly a front runner for development. Kiosks, and disk brochures are the two main applications. One downfall of Authorware 2.0.1 is there is not on-line help within the authoring package. The manuals are good but it sure would be handy to search for topics. Don't ya just hate it when people think they know whats best for us?? Well this should stir up some good discussion (I hope!). I look forward to chatting with you. dtc
