Are there legitimate studies that show multimedia to be effective to learning? I don't just mean kiosks that give information for short-time retentention but study centers, for example, that show that students learn faster and retain longer because of multimedia. Again, I don't want to know that it is true because "involving students in learning helps them retain what they learned" because I'm not convinced that multimedia as we usually discuss it is the same as "hands on learning" as it is usually discussed. I'm looking for research that does show a direct link between learning from multimedia sources and value to education. I don't think there really is any at this time. (Sesame Street isn't multimedia in my def.)
