Hello fellow cataloguers. I work in a government library and we are considering changing over from UKMARC to MARC21. Our collection is fairly small and specialist and we do not catalogue to the nth degree. Also we do not use Library of Congress Subject Headings. I think it doubtful therefore that we will ever wish to share our records with other libraries (and I doubt if they would want them!), also I think it unlikely that we would want to download records from any other libraries. Are there any good reasons to change over to MARC 21 other than the ability to share records ebtween catalogues? I have tried in vain to find any on the web and thought someone on here might be able to point me in the right direction or give me their own personal views. Has anyone here been through the process of changing and can tell me what to expect? Thanks very much.
