Hello: Since the Spanish government closed the newspaper Egin, the Basque Foundation for the Communication BAIETZ is working to bring up a new project to fill the gap left by Egin. The first step towards that global project is to publish a new journal, called "Euskal Herriko Egunkaria GARA" (we ARE the newspaper of the Basque Country). Called just "GARA" (WE ARE) for short, the new journal will come out in January 99. As well as Hitzegin was the support commission for Egin, BAIETZ will be supporting our new media, with those global goals: - to work in favor of freedom of expression in the Basque Country; - to help and support the creation of Basque media; - to work together with other groups, people, enterprises, or institutions that support the previous goals. As an important step to overcame the obstacles caused by the closure of Egin, we have given priority to our presence around all over the world, via our own web http://www.baietz.org , mailto:info@baietz.org with our homepage being continuously updated in six languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Catalonian and, of course, Basque), where you will be able to find those sections and themes: BAIETZ: - A summary about events on support of our media. - Some interesting articles about mass media complemented with references to many interesting books, videotapes, ... - Links to homepages where you will get a first-hand contact with Basque Country's reality. - A posting list (free, of course!) if you want to receive periodically more information about our media . EGIN: - History of Egin newspaper, a long list of suffered aggressions, whatever has been said about it, illegal boycott ... - News, articles and information about the closure of Egin. EGINGO DUGU: - First-hand information about the new communication project, included the newspaper GARA, of course NEWS: - Last hour and urgent news, calls for solidarity, ...
