A not-too-bad article about Rt 23 in Eastern Ky as the source of
country and bluegrass musicians appears in today's (Thurs) NY Times.

http://www.nytimes.com/yr/mo/day/news/arts/kentucky-musicians.html

Although it's a little patronizing in places ("Ashland, Ky, a town
of 27,000 with an oil refinery and two Wal-Marts") it's not a bad
article.

Bruce Weber talks about the friendship between Skaggs and Keith Whitley:

"Ricky used to tell us,
'I like comin' over here to eat because you'uns cook with lard,"'
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
recalled Mary Whitley-Bailey, Whitley's sister)"

The only problem is, they left out Hylo Brown, the Bo-man, and me.

Darn tooty. Good article overall, but a few folks were missed besides
the obvious (Chris, Hylo & myself).

Melvin & Ray Goins (the Goins Brothers)
Hylo Brown
Don Rigsby
Jason Carter
Larry Cordle
Scottie Sparks
Ray Craft
John Rigsby (give him time)
Kevin Prater (give him time)
Johnny Paycheck

I know there are others and these came to mind very quickly, but the
region is rich in talent!

Really interesting stuff to.
The Highway 23 Jamboree is hosted by the guy I play music with, Rob
McNurlin.
Danny Craig, who gets interviewed by the writer, and I were co-workers
the past year, his own business grew and he's his own boss these days.
Julie Revees mother, Rosemary Stewart has been a friend of the family
since I was the BO-BABY.
Kayla Hall's dad and uncle are frinds of mine, and the uncle is a hoss
cat bluegrass singer!

on and on and on
