Hi Don,

I meant to get back to you but this got buried in my INMAIL.

MXG -- is CHEAP CHEAP ($500/year). It will read all the SMF data &
create a SAS database. However we would have to write &
maintain code to manage the aginig of cycles & to avoid allowing
        duplicate data into the database.

SAS/CPE - is a relatively new product. It uses MXG to read the SMF data
but does the data base maintenance for you & has some tools to
help you tailor it to your needs.

I don't know much about SAS/CPE (just went to a "slick" sales pitch that
touted more how you could look at the data with other SAS features than
SAS/CPE itself)

Jane

Can you shed some light on any of these issues?

Rob,

we are using KOMAND, but are looking at our computer billing strategy for
our MVS system.

I ran your note past our staff, who contacted SAS. SAS says they do not
have a cross-charging/accounting module in CPE. Also, they say CPE is
not the same as MXG. In fact, you need MXG to extract the data from IBM's
SMF, for CPE to work.

What is the 'backend that can be used for accounting' that SAS has added ?

Please respond soon, please ! We are very interested !!!!
