CREN has decided not to award a contract based on responses to its RFP
for portable Internet List-Management software.

This decision is based on the conclusion that, without major
modification, the responses received met neither
1) CREN's newly recognized need to quickly provide an alternative to the
expensive VM platforms for list management, nor
2) the long-term goal of the RFP for a very-low-cost portable system
which can be run on both small and large platforms and manage very
large as well as very small lists with minimal technical support and
    significantly improved user interface.

CREN will therefore continue to seek high-quality Internet-oriented
list-management and file-distribution solutions for its members through
negotiation with prospective suppliers and participation in the
development of relevant Internet standards. CREN may issue a new RFP at
some point in the near future if that seems to be the best way to
proceed.
