The CREN Board of Trustees held a board meeting on October 5, 1993, in
Washington, DC.  The following board members were in attendance: Doug
Bigelow, Ron Briggs, Mimi Drake, Ira Fuchs, Ben Klein, Gerry MacDonald,
Marty Solomon, and Mark Strawcutter.  Absent board members were Jan
Baltzer, Matt Korn, and George Sadowsky.

General business, including a report from the Treasurer and a report on
membership activities, were covered during the first part of the
meeting.  The board confirmed the dates for the next board meeting for
Monday, January 31, 1994 and Tuesday, February 1, 1994, to be held in
Washington, DC, starting at 9:00 am.

A resolution was also passed for the board to update and change carriers
for its Directors' &Officers' insurance.

The Customer Service & Relations and the Nominating committees reported
on their committee meetings, activities, and future projects.

HIGHLIGHTS:

King opened discussions on CREN's new strategic plan and mission
statement.  The board also reviewed the proposals for new services which
include BITNET III, Plug and Play, List Management software, and a CREN
Server.  The board then passed resolutions pertaining to each service.
The board was enthusiastic about the direction that CREN is now taking
under King's leadership, and King was authorized to move ahead on the
development of the new services for CREN's membership.

A cooperative relationship between CREN and EARN, and other cooperating
networks were also discussed with the board passing a resolution to
accept (with final editing) the "CREN-EARN Declaration of Cooperation".

The FY93-94 budget was approved as presented to the board.
