In response to pavla's message about mailing boxes for talking book
casettes, I think Pavla is referring to the rigid plastic mailing boxes
used in the U.S.A. which are held closed by plastic snaps.
I am not certain who actually makes these boxes but I think the main
vendor of them is
American Printing House for the Blind,
Frankfort Avenue
louisville, Kentucky, USA
They are made in various capacities to hold from 4 to 6 or 8 cassettes.
I will check with the American Printing House for the Blind on prices.
Pavla, you will need a supply of address cards of the corrrect size, but
any printer, such as ORBIS in Prague should be able to make these for
you.
I think ORBIS is in Prague, but with the changes in the Czech Republic
these days, they may have been renamed or closed.
Pavla, I will ask the American Printing house for the Blind to send you
their catalog, please advise if you want Braille or inkprint.
It only comes in English as far as i know and I do not think there is a
charge.
Please advise me by private mail roughly how many of the mailing boxes
you will need. if a library is starting to buy them, I would expect
many dozens or hundreds of boxes are needed.
I will contact the A.P.H. on behalf of anyone who would like their
catalog please send private mail to me stating:
your full name
complete mailing addrress
telephone, fax and telex numbers if you have them
internet addrress
preferred medium e.g. braille, or ink print it may be available on
cassette but will probably be 4 track, 15/16 ips format.
This offer is available to all subscribers to the Braille mailing list.

Subject: Informations about special features for Blinds
From: VILLA@VM.UNI-BOCCONI.IT (Alberto A. VILLA)
Organization: BOCCONI University, Milano, Italy
Hi All, I am interested in special features that perform PC avalability to
Blinds. I created a big, as I hope, event to pick up some money to gift
an informatic school-room to Blinds Institute of Milan.
The Professional Categories soccer teams of Milan will play in a special
cup leage to collect money for this gift.
In this way Barristers, Ingegneers, Judges, Bocconi's Professors, Pressmen,
Young Enterpreneurs, "Notai", and others of Milan mean solidarity to Blind
Poeple.
For that reasons, I need as more as possible informations about price, capabili
ties and avalabilities of special features for blinds in Personal Computing.
I read there are screen readers, for windows also, different from IBM Screen
Reader, where I could buy them? Which is their prices? What means screen reader
in your mind, a syntetic voice speaker or a small keyboard controlling the part
of screen readed?
These are only few of the questions I have to ask for, please contact me.

Another recordkeeping/financial program that will produce checks is
MANAGING YOUR MONEY, which has the finance guru Andrew tobias as its lead
figure. Usually, the current edition is $39.95. Older editions get
cheaper - try one of the big chain bookstores. There is a related program
for doing income taxes called TaxCut (year) that will pull data out of MYM
& plug it into the appropriate slots. What next, huh? Eileen Keim

After 10 years, my VTEK Mboss1 has given up the ghost. I am going to purchase
another braille printer and would like some input about these printers and the
experience that people have had with them.

Subject: Conveying graphics information from a computer screen
From: gjb@brain.physics.swin.oz.au (Greg Burgess)
I am a Masters research student, working on developing a device which is
intended to represent the screen of a PC, in the region around the
cursor. I am familiar with products such as WinVision, which give voice
output of text and standard Windows elements such as menus and dialog
boxes.
What I would like to know is whether there already exist any products which
can give some sort of output based directly on the screen,
enabling a user to examine an object such as a simple graph. I am
thinking of something like an electronic Braille unit, where the pins
represent pixels.
Also, do people feel that this is a useful goal?
