  Subject: Re: Capsule Paper

On Friday 21/7/95 Dorothy Lenard asked about:-
" capsule paper, with which one could custom make raised line maps. We have
 obtained some existing raised line
maps from the other resources you all gave me, but still have
a need to custom make maps for testing purposes. The capsule
paper was just what we need, but I was not given a source, and cannot find it in
any of our catalogs. Can anybody tell me of a source?

In the UK, Queen Alexandra College for the Blind market such a paper,
along with a system called Nomad which produces tactile drawings with
sound using a Thermo pen and a pc. I saw an impressive demo this
week.

Subject: Talking word prc
From: blocka@beloit.edu (Alan Block)

Sir,

I have a customer who is looking for a word processor which will speak each
word as it is typed, each letter as it is typed, for the Windows platform.
Can you suggest any places do look for such things?

Thanks,
 Alan

Subject: DOS-based internet browsing for visually impaired
From: edinburgh@easynet.co.uk (edinburgh cyberia)
Organization: edinburgh cyberia

Can anyone point me in the direction of any software which will
enable blind users to access the internet?

This would need to be DOS-based. There appears to be plenty that
can do the text-to-speech job, once you have some files, but
something that will help in doing the browsing in the first place
is not something I have seen.

Here at this internet cafe, we have some customers who would like
to be able to use the internet, but they are currently unable to do
so.

Please direct replies to the email address edinburgh@easynet.co.uk
as soon as possible...

Thanks

Dave

Do these positions pay at or above the minimum wage? National Industries for
the Blind has opposed efforts to end the exemption that sheltered workshops
for the blind enjoy that allow them to pay sub-minium wages to blind workers.
The managers and administrators earn considerable salries often gained at the
expense of hard-working but unsophiscated blind workers.
