No matter how you word it "Am I my brothers keeper" or Net-Kop it is a fair question. When someone asks for help (in this group or elsewhere) should we help? If we see a crime should we report it? It is an old philosophical question which the deluge of Spam in this group made me realize that all the Spam I get (email as well as Usenet) needs action to stop it. My actions are simple: If someone asks a question that I can help with I try and help. If someone Spams or is abusive I try and stop it. To stop it I report to whatever authorities that are appropriate. Many Spammers have Trojan horses and are victims themselves, reporting to their ISP's is the only way to communicate (invariably the reply-to address is forged). By reporting to their ISP the ISP can warn their client to fix their computer, if they are originating Spammers the ISP can terminate their service. The Spam message often has links in it that can be traced to the Spammer (sometimes via signup to paypal so reporting to paypal is a good idea). Reporting to everyone possible is the best thing to do. Remailers are usually used by people afraid of the law, often child pornographers. A remailer is most akin to someone that drives a child molester around town to allow the molester to have access to children. In fact a remailer is a poor definition, they in fact take an email hide who it came from then mail it themselves. Remailers in fact are distributors of the material, if they distribute child pornography they should be arrested, if they distribute abusive material they should be held responsible for their actions. <snip> > > Oh WOW, what a hero. You're just another Net-Kop with Small Dick > Syndrome. > -- > > Love and Best Wishes, > Tripper I highly recommend everyone being a good citizen and helping those that ask for it and reporting those that need to be reported. That is not just for this group but all groups. I have seen a dramatic reduction in Spam I can but hope that it is because of my reporting. Randy
