>What a pile of garbage...Whether or not someone is breaking the law >is a trivial issue. One should not base their actions on what is >legal or illegal, but on what is right and wrong. I openly advocate >and promote breaking the law on many issues. Doing so is NOT wrong, >and it is certainly not illegal. For example, I openly advocate >that people engage in drug use and commerce if they desire to >do so. I am not breaking any law by promoting such, and frankly >if the case was that I was breaking the law I really wouldn't >give a damn. Use your conscience. Don't relegate it to lawmakers, for >if you do you are relegating your humanity. > >So in my opinion, whether or not getting a copy of the ROM is >illegal or not is irrelevant. If that's the only justification >you guys can come up with, then I feel sorry for you. So, do you think that giving away the property of others is right or wrong? Sure, maybe giving away a copy of an 8 yr old ROM is not nearly so "wrong" as stealing someone's car, but it is still wrong. The law isn't perfect, but it's there and it draws the line at the cleanest place to draw it... everyone. If you try to make exceptions regarding "how wrong", then it degenerates into a matter of individual opinion. Personally, I don't care what people do to themselves. Your drug comment is a good example. Though I personally think anyone who takes drugs is pretty damned stupid, that's their business and as long as they don't hurt anyone else, I don't care. If somebody wants to drive drunk a 100 miles away from the nearest living soul, I don't care. Drive drunk in my town, and I care. Sell drugs to kids or "spike" a drink, and I care. Give someone else's property away and I care. Giving away the CoCo ROMs is wrong. They are not your property. You are granted a license to use the code, but you do not own the code. The law is there to keep those with no morals from hurting those of us with morals on the subject. These opinions are all Brian _ / __/ _ / mine and you can't have ( studer@bnr.ca ) / / __ / __ / any. So there! ( bcwhite@sunee.uwaterloo.ca ) ___/ ___/ ___/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The difference between theory and practice is less in theory than in practice.
