Oh boy, here we go again. First let me say that I've never been a big fan
of Compton's Multimedia Encyclopedia. In my opinion, the printed encyclopedia
is easier to use, faster to search, and you get more of your money's worth
with the paper version. The CD-ROM version is priced exhorbitantly high for
the cost of materials and included software.

Given the caveat that I haven't seen the actual news release of the patent,
the way it is described makes it sound obviously simplistic. For what it's
worth, I think software patents aren't worth a plug nickel and should be
viewed that way in the patent office. Unfortunately current patent and copyright
laws are about 40 years behind the times -- and that's a conservative
estimate. Frankly it sounds like Compton plans to use the patent as a type
of leverage to force its way into other company's pockets.
