Well, being a test subject for the first production run 340 upgrade is making me feel like Mike Nelson (MST3K) :-) The machine runs much much much faster!! The screen scrolls faster, programs compile and run faster, it boots from the HD, etc. But, as with all things, there are little bugs to be "raid-ed" (tm). In particular, there appears to be a palette bug in the window driver (ver. 51) that crashes when you use the green palette (#4) or above (untested.) I presume that is what kills gifshow as it does get a line or two drawn. Furthermore, I don't think anyone is going to get the system to start faster than 16MHz as the Meg used at boot up is 80ns and is controlled via the VSC (and more time) but once the the system has switched to the expansion RAM things can be spead up quite abit. I have gotten shamu up to 20 MHz (well, 'till that 80ns simm got hot! had a 70 and a 80 in there <grin>) More info as they surface -- Read MOTD! --cramer (Ricky Beam) ===================================================================== = cramer@catt.ncsu.edu NCSU Computer and Technologies Theme Program = = jfbeam@tx.ncsu.edu NCSU College of Textiles = = jfbeam@eos.ncsu.edu NCSU College of Engineering = ===================================================================== = 414E Wood, NCSU, Raleigh, NC 27607 (919) 512-4653 = = 2600 Royster Rd., Shelby, NC 28150-2889 (704) 538-9060 = =====================================================================
