The Bio-Rad MRC1024 necessitates a PC/motherboard with ISA slots.

I have heard discussed a scheme where the old PC with the ISA slots is
only used to initiate the scanning of the laser, and the control/data
acquisition is done on a different, faster PC. The data signals were
taken from the scan-head at some point and fed directly into the other
PC.

Does anybody have any information on this sort of set-up and how to go
about making it happen?
