When we first started thinking about this we too looked at computer magazines to see what they were doing. They were the authorities then, but I find this less compelling now. Our policy depends more on the logic of our specific field, i.e., libraries. Libraries catalog software products; they catalog CD-ROMs; they catalog data files--just as they do other pieces of intellectual property like books, audio recordings, and photographs, the titles of which we of course ital. And unlike a stapler, all these items can be copyrighted.
