CIDA Gender policy - communication??

Hi all,
I have looked at the CIDA Policy Consultation on The Draft CIDA Policy On
Gender Equality - http://www.bellanet.org/partners/equal-egale/index-e.cfm
and suggest that others, especially Canadians, interested in communication
for development take a look too.

The draft only mentions media in a brief reference to the Beijing
conference outcomes. There is no specific mention of media access, media
& telecom infrastructure, participation of women in media, gender and
ICTs, etc.

The section of the draft on "Making the link between achieving gender
equality and CIDA's other Programming Priorities" does not include media &
telecom infrastructure as part of "appropriate and accessible
infrastructure."

In the section on "Human Rights, Democratization and Good Governance"
there is mention of "awareness" but no mention of the communication
mechanisms that might facilitate awareness.

The Gender Analysis section does not include any reference to analysis of
communicative and informational environments.

Since this is a draft document and we all have a chance to contribute, if
we are interested in the gender dimensions of communication for
development and media for development & democracy, we should put our 2
cents worth into the dialogue.

Cheers,
