From: peregrine@web.UUCP Subject: The 5 Minute Project Conf: women.unwcw Date: 01 Oct 94 13:36 EDT The 5 Minutes Project - Global Women's Stories Women from over 20 countries will be broadcasting their stories world-wide during September 1995. Designed to complement the activities of the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, each country's 5 minute-long television production will relate to the Conference theme -- Action for Equality, Development and Peace. Stories about women in Cameroon, Chad, Kenya, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Vietnam, Ireland, Colombia, Canada and the United States will be included in international telecasts and national broadcasts, as arranged. Topics will include women in development, violence against women, reforestation in former war zones, job creation, new rape laws, union organizing, and a controversial irrigation program. Although many segments will be documentaries, folk tales, humorous and musical items will also be part of the production. Women producers in participating countries will be responsible for the content and technical production of their items. In many ways this approach is unique, epitomizing self-determination in the broadcast industry. There is a lot of enthusiasm gathering about The 5 Minute Program. If you know of a producer or broadcaster who might be interested in participating, please contact us at the number below. Also, if there is an organization you feel would be interested in using the tapes for discussion groups or other educational purposes, do let us know. It is planned that all the tapes will be available for non-broadcast use. The 5 Minute Project is an exciting opportunity to reach millions of people about interests which affect women on every continent. We invite you to participate in whatever way you can - as a viewer, a producer, or someone who tells others about these video stories.
